Dear Jane Addams; --

Just a line to wish you Bon voyage and to tell you how much we miss you.

It was so nice having you in the house but you have left a big hole behind.

We had our luncheon yesterday at the Museum Rath and it was a great success, about a hundred and twenty five present. We were very proud of Mrs Swanwick and Mrs Larsen Jahn, who measured up well beside Mrs Corbett Ashby and Madame [Komanisiano?].

The spirit among all the women's organizations is very friendly. Mrs Corbett Ashby liked my invitation to come and stay at the Maison next time she was in Geneva and said she would do so. You see we [page 2] are the only club house and I think all the women from other organizations who come here might like to use our headquarters.

I am off this morning to spend the week with [Eleanore] von Eltz at Lac d'Annecy. I confess I will be glad to get away from people for a little while. Miss Courtney & Dr Clark as well as Miss Marshall have promised to keep their eyes on things.

Don't worry about us here. I think every thing is going much better now. I feel a much more friendly spirit towards me and that will make the work a lot easier. It has helped enormously having you here. Every one is quoting you and loving you and feeling that you, more than any other one person, are making world peace possible.

I didn't half express my [page 3] appreciation to you for your note and your birthday present. You can think of me this winter having some very happy hours with the books the money will buy.

Please give my love to Mary Smith and Ida Lovett, and with much for yourself, and deep appreciation of all you stand for and are --

Faithfully & devotedly

Madeleine Doty --

Fraulein Hattinga, Dad & I are going together to pick out a linoleum for the second hall -- after that we'll get to the dining room.
