Miss Jane Addams,
Hull's Cove,
Maine.
Beloved Lady:
If what I am about to ask [embarrasses] you, don't do it, just send my letter to Mr. Rosenwald back to me. I am sending it to you for two reasons, first, you will know as I do not whether he is sensitive about workmen's compensation for any possible reason; and second, because I can't get around the dragon and the lion who guard his mail and save him from getting communications from me. It is many years since I last wrote him, and I am still without a reply; I learned later that communications from the [hoi] polloi never affront his gaze.
I trust that your September is as good as ours, better I could hardly wish you, we are all thriving, especially myself.
With love to Mary,
Yours always devotedly,
