Dear Miss [Addams],
We learned today that the Naval Committee has decided not to hear us. I don't think that Mr. Britten could pretend not to know what all your telegrams are about. If he is too distracted to remember that the committee asked the D.A.R. to investigate us, his memory is particularly short. In any case we literally have them on the run.
The Pennsylvania branch refused to do any thing until they should get a confirmation that the committee made this request. They insisted to me that it couldn't be possible, but a telephone message from Mrs. Hull this morning told me that Butler had confirmed it, so they are beginning now.
I [enclose] copies of Edith Pye's letter. I consulted Drew Pearson about the Japanese letter and following his advice I am sending it out as a release for the morning papers.
