Jan 18-28.
Very dear Jane
As you know the Ex. Meeting in Lyons is to be on Mar 18th and they may have a second meeting in July and postpone the discussion of constitutional questions to then. I had vaguely and rather wildly hoped that I might go to Honolulu if you wanted me to, but this seems to knock that on the head for I think if I go over I might as well stay on a bit. The Com. wants me to do W.I.L. work in Poland or the Balkans & such. Frances Hayward [page 2] wants me to combine business with pleasure and do some of the things we failed to get to previously, with her. So I sail with her Feb 24 on the Colombo of the Navigazione Gen. Italiana and we land at Casablanca, Mar 4. This will give us about a fortnight in Morocco before we go to Lyons via Marseilles. After the meeting I have told her that I will ↑also↓ accompany her to Palestine after the meeting and we may even get rather further but these plans are vague. At any rate I hope this will leave a good interval during which I can be on W.I.L. business, if there really is any opening, Louie before my return (after the July meeting?). [page 3]
↑Miss Louie↓ Bennett invites me to come to Ireland wh. I should enjoy very much.
What do you think of the British letter about the criticism of Mrs Swanwick's speech. I could wish they did not try to mend a watch that does not run well, with a sledge hammer but it is their idea of being frank. It sounds like a merry prospect for peace.
I hope you will have a good talk with Madeleine Doty and let me know as fully as possible what you want me to [page 4] do over there.
The news as to the Lauterbach business is purely dilatory -- the Court has appointed a guardian to see whether the agreement reached by the beneficiaries (according to wh. we were to receive perhaps 27,000) is consistent with the interests of minor and unborn beneficiaries. After which the Surrogate ↑will↓ pronounces on our fate. This was in a letter to Mrs. White who wrote, on her own, asking for news. The lawyers have offered us no report.
Yours affectionately
Emily G B.
It seems to me as if every day I wanted [more?] to see you. Is there [written up right margin] no chance of your coming East within the next six weeks?
