Lydia Marie Schmidt to Emily Greene Balch, January 12, 1928

January 12, 1928.

Dear Miss Balch,

Enclosed I am sending you the letter from Mrs. Larsen-Jahn which has just arrived.

The statues of the Nobel Institution of which she speaks have not yet come.

Do you think it is too late for us to begin now and do you think it would be better to wait till next year? Perhaps the time is too short to secure a sufficient number of strong recommendations from the different countries. Perhaps if we waited we could get an irresistible combination of statesmen and scholars. I am sure I have no opinion in the matter as my experience in matters of this sort is so limited.

Miss Baber is much interested and will do what she can to help.

Very cordially,

(signed) LYDIA M. SCHMIDT.
