My dear Miss Addams:
I am very happy to have your note of greeting. The second box of books which you are sending will be very welcome. As you know, we are preparing to build a new library building and with the new library we shall have to rapidly increase the number of volumes it contains. We appreciate especially the books that you sent not only for their intrinsic worth, but because you sent something of yourself with them. I am having a special book plate prepared by one of our college artists which will be placed in each of the books that have come from you and Miss Balch. The plate will have a drawing of the entrance of the college with the proper designation of the professorship in your name. They, I hope, will remain with the college for many years as a mark of the work that you have done for it.
May I wish you the warmest best wishes for the New Year that is about to open? May you have even a greater measure of that wealth of spirit for which we all pray at this season.
