July 8, 1927.

My dear Miss Addams:

Tomorrow I retire as Mr. Rosenwald's secretary. After a week or so I am going to Mackinac for two months, then, after a week or two at my home in Chicago, 5340 Hyde Park Blvd., I am going to California to live. My son, his wife and baby already have gone out there to reside, it happened that Schuyler's business took him there.

This coming removal from Chicago makes it proper for me to resign as Treasurer and as a Trustee of the Social Workers' Country Club. As Mr. Cahn, the Secretary, has gone to Europe for the summer, I am presuming to break in upon your Summer rest and to place resignations in your hands as Chairman of the Board.

The cash balance to the credit of the Social Workers' Country Club, William C. Graves, Treasurer, at the Liberty Trust & Savings bank is $407.12. This is the same amount shown in my statement for the first calendar quarter of 1927, as presented at a meeting of the Trustees last April 8th, approved and recorded in the minutes. The Trustees have no other possession, except the club house, equipment, and furniture and furnishings at Riverside. I am ready to pay over this cash balance to any one delegated by the Trustees.

It has been a great pleasure to serve with you in this and other endeavors during so many years that I dislike to count them. It also has been a privilege. Your own wisdom, experience, and hopeful outlook have been inspiring and comforting. I hope I may have the pleasure of calling upon you at Hull House to say good-bye before I leave Chicago finally.

Faithfully yours,

signed -- WILLIAM C. GRAVES

Miss Jane Addams,
Hull's Cove,
Maine.

P.S. -- I am having a copy of this letter sent to each of the other trustees.
