My dear Mrs Hicks --
Thank you so much for your kind letter which came yesterday. The S. O. fund is splendid and it certainly shows that a lot of work has been done. It seems to me that the whole summer has been fine and we here [both] feel much indebted to you.
Don't feel that you must hurry back from Iowa City, do take a few days vacation with Barbara. [page 2] It looks now as if we wouldn't be back until Oct. 1st. I hope that won't seem too late for you, and that all the house cleaning in Sept won't seem too messy!
