WYNNEWOOD, PENNSYLVANIA
Dearest Miss Addams:
At our Board Meeting last week it was voted that I should write you concerning a plan which has been in the minds of some members of the Board for sometime -- that we should raise, in honor of you a "Jane Addams Peace Foundation" a sum of one or two millions of dollars, the interest to be spent in the cause of Peace at your discretion, and willed by you as you desire.
I had heard of this plan [page 2] before I went away a year ago, and find it still an active interest upon my return. The Board wishes to follow your desires in the matter to the letter, as to purpose of foundation, name and administration, as well as to the desirability ↑of↓ carrying out of the whole idea itself. As chairman of the Board, I was asked to approach you, and report later. If you desire to talk with Miss Balch, Mrs Lewis and others whom you may meet [page 3] this summer, before making any reply, it will be entirely right to wait.
I was also instructed to write you concerning the possibility of having you with us at a Board Meeting ↑in Philadelphia↓ in the fall, in September, if feasible, on your way home from Prague or in November in Baltimore. If you see any hope which we might cling to, will you kindly let me know before you leave the country?
We are so happy ↑to hear↓ that you are feeling so well, and [page 4] trust that the trip will do you good. We all insist, however, that you must not work so hard as you always had. Please do put details on the shoulders of others as much as possible, and make others work for you, preside for you, etc. I wish I could be there to help constitutes a body guard.
I must not call upon you to read a letter even longer than absolutely necessary.
With all my love,
Ever devotedly
Hannah Clothier Hull
