WOMEN'S INTERNATIONAL LEAGUE FOR PEACE AND FREEDOM

April [blank], 1927.

Madame Ramondt-Hirschmann,
14/3 Daniel de Langesti
Amsterdam,
Netherlands.

Dear Madame: --

Amanda F. Lauterbach, a member of the New York Branch of the United States Section of the W.I.L. for P. and F., died on May 7th, 1926, leaving a Will and [Codicil]. Our League is mentioned in the [Codicil] and there is also a provision that if the League is not incorporated, then the legacy should be paid to the Treasurer of the League as Trustee for the properties of the League. The three daughters of Mrs. Lauterbach have contested the Will and settlements of the controversy between all of the parties excepting the League has been entered into. Your title is Recording and Financial Secretary, but inasmuch as the [Codicil] speaks of the word "Treasurer" it will be necessary to establish to the satisfaction of the attorneys of the Court, that you are in fact the Treasurer of the International Body and perform the duties and functions pertaining to the Treasurer and Financial Officer.

Mr. Harland B. Tibbetts, of the Law Firm -- Jerome & Rand, of New York, attorneys for the three contesting daughters, has been called quite suddenly to Paris and is sailing on April 30th. I am told that he expects to spend two or three weeks in Paris and then proceed to London and has very kindly offered to render whatever assistance possible to facilitate the League in this matter. He is willing to stop in Amsterdam and call upon you and it will be for the best interests of the League for you to receive him and permit him to examine the Minutes of the Executive Committee and to interview you regarding your official duties as officer and in fact the Treasurer of the International Body. Mr. Tibbetts can be [page 2] reached in Paris by addressing him

c/o Munroe & Cie
4 Rue de Ventadour
Paris, France.

Upon receipt of this letter, please write or telegraph to Mr. Tibbetts informing him that you have received this letter and that you will be glad to interview him and also telling him whether or not you have in your possession the original Minutes of the Executive Committee Meetings and if the original copies of the Executive Committee Meetings Minutes are kept by Miss Doty at Geneva. Will you kindly write to Mr. Tibbetts at the above address to that effect?

Miss Emily Greene Balch of Wellesley, Mass., very kindly called upon Alexander & Keenan, our attorneys and has acquainted them with such facts as she had at her command, and I understand she has written to you.

Very truly yours,

P.S. Mr. Tibbetts is also a temporary administrator of this estate.
