January 23, 1912.

My dear Mr. Carman: --

I am very sorry indeed that I have an engagement on the evening of January 29th to speak at a conference of the Minimum Wage Commission, but it will give me much pleasure to extend your invitation to other members of the settlement and I hope that some of the household will be able to go.

I have read the literature with much interest and thank you for your great kindness in drawing my attention to the matter. Any cause is indeed fortunate to enlist the help of your pen.

Sincerely yours,

Jane Addams. [signed]

Bliss Carman, Esq.,
New Canaan, Connecticut.
