May Second 1927
My dear Miss Addams:
Thank you very much for your note regarding the Carnegie people. I did think that they might respond to your recommendation but knew that they would do nothing short of it. I am sorry, however, that some of the more favored points got all the money before we came in. I talked to the people in the office in New York about this two years ago, but they assured me then I was too late.
I understand the box of books that you have recently sent has arrived and will in due course be unpacked. Perhaps you know we are making strenuous efforts to build an adequate library and a chapel. I enclose a copy of the preliminary sketch by Mr. Tallmadge.
With best wishes, I am
Cordially yours,
(William A. Maddox)
Miss Jane Addams,
Chicago,
Illinois.
