February 25, 1927.

Dear Jane Addams,

Just a tiny note enclosing the receipt for our February allowance for which many thanks. I am much rushed at the moment getting ready for the Liège meeting. As soon as it is over I will write you a long account of the proceedings.

I was so pleased to get the newspaper clippings about the dinner given you. I have put a little extract in "Pax" ↑for March.↓

Of course I shall do nothing to press the Executive to let me continue "Pax." It will be a much easier job just to run it for America but I cannot help feeling that they really do need my help here. The English point of view is a little too high brow to make it popular. Mrs. Swanwick's paper "Foreign Affairs" has, I understand, a very small list of subscribers and I am sure you have got to have a breezy, popular little news sheet if you want to increase your membership and get additional money. I think I wrote you that Lida Heymann wanted us to stop the German edition and in response to her request I put a little notice in the German copy saying we would send the German members the English edition unless they requested us to keep on with the German edition. We have had so many letters urging us to not drop the German edition even from Lida Heymann's own members that I see we will have to keep it for this year.

It is a great relief to know that I can have the full amount from the American Fund if necessary. When Roger was here I talked to him about diminishing the size of "Pax" and he said it would never do, that the American Fund would not be satisfied to continue their contribution if we did not keep the paper on ↑at↓ its present size and ↑if we↓ did not expect to continue it in the future. [page 2]

I am starting on Sunday for Paris and hope to have a weekend in London with Roger at Mrs. Pethick-Lawrence's before I go on the 7th of March to Liège to arrange for the executive meeting.

Just at the moment Anna Rochester and Grace Hutchins are in the Maison enjoying themselves immensely and saying many complementary things about Headquarters. ↑It is great to have them here.↓

With much love to you,

Ever faithfully,

Madeleine Z. Doty [signed]

↑Congress report is finished am sending copies to America next week.↓
