My dear Miss Addams,

May I just say that I was much disappointed not to be able to be present at the dinner given in your honor last Thursday -- all seats were already sold when I heard about it.

But I want you to know that I have most gratefully appreciated all you have done actively and in the silent way of personal influence for this city, its adults & children, and for the world.

Count me as one of your most sincere admirers ever since the days when I lived at the Jane Club and you helped me during my terms as treasurer and president.
