Dear Miss Sears:

I have Mr. Chandler's letter inviting me to be one of the Committee for the banquet in Miss [Addams'] honor on January 20th.

I value this invitation as the highest honor that has come to me in my life -- to be a member of a Committee to show the regard of the Community to Miss Addams. I can think of no greater honor that can come to any citizen of Chicago.

However, I am expecting to go to Florida on January 6th and am not likely to be back until January 23rd, so that, to my deep regret, I could not be present at the dinner. But if, in view of this circumstance, my name and good will can still be of service to you, I shall be glad to have them used. I can assure you that if my name appears on the Committee, that list of the Committee will be put in my deposit box where it may be found by the children after I have passed out!

With my best wishes for a Happy New Year,

Yours truly,

James Mullenbach [signed]

Miss Amelia Sears,
308 N. Michigan Ave.,
Chicago.
