Miss Jane Addams,
800 South Halsted Street,
Chicago, Illinois.
My dear Miss Addams: --
Since you were in the office I have been constantly in court and am still engaged there and shall be all day today and perhaps tomorrow at the very least.
I do not see how it will be possible for me to perform the service which I would gladly perform for your benefit before next week, and I am writing this letter so that if the delay seems to you to be undesirable, some one else of your very numerous friends may take up the work.
I regret that I am so engrossed in the matter which I have in hand that your matter cannot be attended to now.
With kindest regards, I am,
Yours very truly,
C. S. Cutting [signed]
