At the last meeting of the Board of Directors of Lincoln No. 22 it was moved and unanimously carried that we join other groups in the protest against the attack upon Jane [Addams] made by Ferre Watkins on November 10th.
The reason for this protest is the fact that Mr. Watkins was guilty of three glaring mistakes.
(1) He grossly misquoted Miss [Addams], sufficiently to form the basis of a lawsuit. Jane [Addams] never said the things Mr. Watkins put into her mouth.
(2) He assailed the integrity of Jane [Addams], accusing her of "Trying to sell out her country for personal advantage." This would be funny, if it were not so sad. Jane [Addams], the embodiment of unselfish devotion, the noble woman who has made the most tremendous sacrifices for all the social reforms which have marked the growth of our city for the last thirty years.
(3) He called her "this person" in a way which outrages the love and reverence, that thousands of men and women all over the world have for Jane [Addams].
