Dear Miss Addams:
Your letter came this morning and with it the check from Madison which of course we shall acknowledge from here. I am eager to see Madeleine Doty's explanation which no doubt Mrs. Hull will send on to me.
Jessie Binford sent me an article in the Chicago Journal against you and she says how enraged everyone is at Hull House. It is very curious because on the 9th when we were having our Board Meeting we discussed the possibility of future attacks as a hint of it came to Miss Balch.
I realize how terrible it is for us, but I do wish a good strong libel suit could be started. I think some of these gentleman will have to pay before they stop abusing decent people. I suppose you have seen the editorial in the World, which came out in your defense after this attack. I am hoping that we shall have many more like them.
My dearest love to you,
