Telegram received from Jane Addams:

"Have just sent following message to President Coolidge "May I express the hope that you will by veto restore the [Japanese] quota to the terms of the Gentlemen's Agreement and adhere to the [well-established] policy between Japan and the United States. In this request I represent not only a large number of American women but also European and Oriental members of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom which holds its International Congress in Washington early in May. Organized as we are for the promotion of International Peace and Good Will we are deeply concerned over [a] situation which may so easily lead to grave misunderstanding and discord."
