Dear Mrs. Addams
I am very very sorry that I had not the opportunity to meet you. When your last night message arrived, it was too late for me to make arrangements to come to Chicago. Notwithstanding your kind invitation to stay in Hull House, for which I thank you heartily, the journey would have entailed financial difficulties, as I belong to those unfortunate Germans who as victims of the post-war development belong now to to the new proletariat. I am sailing in a few hours, but I hope that our plans to meet ↑will be realized↓ either while you for your next International Congress will be in Europe, or at my next visit to America, which I think to will be better prepared.
Very truly yours
L. Quidde
