INTERNATIONAL OFFICE, GENEVA, SWITZERLAND
6 Rue du Vieux-Collège
It is not that I am not willing to do any amount of work that I can for the National, but I do not think that you quite realize what my financial obligations are as International President. Every other year since the organization has been founded in 1915, I have raised about $10,000 for the expense of the International Office. I shall have to raise approximately a like amount next spring before we have our next Congress and it would be impossible to carry on International work without this generous contribution from America. So long as I have this responsibility I think I must make it my first obligation and I am quite sure that we would not raise enough in the National fund to give anything like $5000 a year to the International work.
We are now under obligation to send $500 ↑(6000. a year)↓ to Geneva and our National dues last year were approximately less than $2000, so while there is a certain amount of money in the bank I am under a promise as if were, to keep up this amount. I think it would only scatter forces if I signed a National letter and in the end would leave high and dry for the International. Many of the Branches use my name as International President and whatever value it has as a “sponsor” is thus obtained.
I am awfully sorry to seem to differ so strenuously but I sure you understand it is merely an effort to balance claims
