Biographical Text

LeBaron Briggs grew up in Cambridge, Massachusetts and attended Harvard College. After graduating, he held a tutoring position that lead him to a job as an English professor. Briggs' long working relationship with the institution eventually lead to the presidency of Radcliffe College, the all-female institution that was a sister school to Harvard. Briggs served as president from 1903 to 1923. Briggs died in 1934.

Briggs married former Radcliffe student Mary De Quedeville in September of 1883. The couple had three children together, all either Harvard or Radcliffe graduates.
