Dear Miss Addams
This letter is an appeal to you for a kindly word in the right direction in behalf of the Coglianese family. You may remember a young Italian boy who had a news stand in front of Hull House some years ago & to whom you were very [page 2] kind. He and the family consisting of father, mother and seven brothers & sisters (only one of whom is working and that one a lame one) rent a flat from me. They now owe three months rent.
I am a widow, necessarily depend the on the rent & really need the money.
They have gone to all sorts of places when [page 3] told of work, only to be sent away with nothing. They really need assistance of some sort. Food, fuel, shoes, clothing, rent for nine people is a staggering burden for one young fellow to say nothing of sickness of which they have a goodly share.
Will you speak for them or direct us so they may get a little assistance,
Respectfully,
