EMBASSY OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
Tokyo, December 10, 1924.
My dear Miss Addams:
I had the pleasure of meeting Mrs. Eddy twice before your letter of introduction came. I am glad, however, to hear from you and to tell you that you need not be at all fearful of burdening me with any of your friends. I shall be glad to see them.
Mrs. Eddy has invited me to Nitobe house to a quiet dinner on the 15th which I am sure I shall enjoy -- despite the fact that our nation is very shy towards the League of Nations and Japan seems deeply distressed (as Dr. Nitobe has shown he is) by the Immigration Act.
My first impression of the Japanese is that they are very warm-hearted and temperamental, very much like ourselves. They have won me by their gracious courtesy and friendliness so that I shall have to beware lest I fall into the "pro" class!
Thanking you for introducing Mrs. Eddy, and with the [page 2] Season’s Best Wishes, I am
Sincerely yours,
Edgar A. Bancroft [signed]

↑P.S. If I don't send my annual [check] with my good wishes I may forget it -- and you may think my wishes are "diplomatic."↓
