My dear Miss Addams:

I am supervising a number of detailed studies of American leaders, and Miss Dunn is given the pleasant task of analyzing your own distinguished personality and career. She is a serious student, working on this subject for a Doctorate and what she does will be undertaken under my own personal supervision. You may be sure that if she does not do an excellent piece of work it will never see the light of day.

This series is one of my hobbies, and we now have theses being written on James G. Blaine, Grover Cleveland, William Jennings Bryan and the Carter Harrisons. I should very greatly appreciate any help you might give Miss [Dunn], as we should like to make this study the best of them all.

With very best wishes, I am

Very sincerely yours,

Charles E. Merriam
