Biographical Text

Edgar Thomas Davies was the head of the Illinois Department of Factory Inspection in Chicago from 1901 until 1913. He was suspected of converting department property for his own use, the state brought suit against him to recoup the alleged $258 loss. Davies defended himself, charging there was a conspiracy to injure his and former Governor Charles Deneen's reputation. The judge in the case ultimately dismissed the suit against him, but there was considerable evidence that he was, indeed, in possession of state property after his resignation from his state post.

Davies was married to Lillian Davies. They had one daughter. Davies died in 1948.
