Biographical Text

Charles Darwin was a biologist and geologist who developed the theory of natural selection. His research on the Galápagos led to his writing On the Origin of Species. Darwin thus developed the theory of natural selection, where he argued that species evolved over time in order to survive in their surroundings. This theory was controversial at the time, being seen as heretical. Despite this, Darwin continued with his scientific work and writings.

Darwin married his cousin, Emma Wedgwood in 1839. They had ten children together. Seven of the children survived into adulthood. Darwin died in 1882.
