November 14th, 1918
My dear Miss [Cooke]:
I am so sorry that I will be unable to keep my appointment at the Francis Parker School for Wednesday morning, November twenty-seventh.
A Committee meeting which I must attend in New York on Saturday, the thirtieth, has been pushed forward a week to Saturday, the twenty-third. As I have an engagement before the Women's City Club of Boston for December second and various other speaking engagements for that week, it will be impossible for me to come home in between and I am therefore reluctantly obliged to give up my Chicago engagements for that week.
I can only hope that this will reach you in time for you to make other satisfactory arrangements for the Thanksgiving celebration and that you will let me come on some other occasion.
Always affectionately yours,
Jane Addams [signed]
