Biographical Text

Jonathan P. Dolliver was a lawyer who graduated from the University of West Virginia. He moved to Fort Dodge, IA in 1875 and opened his own law practice. There he gained a reputation as a public speaker. He was elected as a Republican for the House of Representatives in 1889. From 1900-1910, he served as one of Iowa's senators. Dolliver was considered for vice-president on the 1900 ticket. Dolliver died in office in 1910.

Dolliver married Mary Louise Pearson in 1895 and had three children, Margaret, Frances Pearson, and Jonathan P. Dolliver, Jr.
