November 1 -- 1917

THE OAK
SWARTHMORE, PA.

My dear Miss Addams:

It is a very great pleasure to [us] to anticipate having the Annual Convention in Philadelphia, and especially the opportunity of meeting the National Board and the delegates personally.

I have seen Mrs Linn just once since her return but we are getting to work very earnestly hoping to make the convention [page 2] just what you wish it to be. We shall be delighted to entertain delegates in our homes, so when you have read this letter perhaps you will hand it to Mrs Karsten that she may have this information. I have also written to Mr Angell asking him to speak under our Friends' Yearly Meeting's committee and several other local organizations as you suggested. [page 3]

I hear that Mrs Linn has invited you to her home and I sincerely hope you will go there, although I was cherishing a hope that we might have the pleasure of having you for a part of the time at least ↑in ours.↓ Could you in any case, come to us on Sunday, Dec. 9 to be present at our Friends' Meeting in Swarthmore which the College students attend, and give there [whatever] message you may [page 4] have? -- Then we should hope you would spend the remainder of the day in our home just quietly, and perhaps meeting a few pacifist friends for dinner. I should be glad to arrange the day in any way you suggest or invite any one here whom you wish. -- Of course if you could come to us on Saturday for the [weekend], it would be [page 5] all the better. Dr. Swain asks me to give you a very cordial and special invitation from him for that ↑Sunday↓ morning meeting.

The coming together at the convention will be a comfort and help to us all, I am sure. -- I do hope you are keeping well physically under the strain and stress of things.

With affectionate greetings, I am

Most sincerely

Hannah Clothier Hull.
