Dearest—
Everybody was very cheerful this morning over your two letters [although] I am going away for two days with a sinking of heart. The Resurrection check came today for which I am very grateful but do hate to dump it into "the relief," it seems too special. It is quite exciting your news of Rose Pastor--we are certainly slow in Chicago. Mary McDowell was here to lunch and we took an article to The News which I will send. The Crane building is well off I think—will tell you about it.
My love to your household—
Always yrs J. A.
The check was the annual [amount] on "Democracy & Social Ethics".
