Biographical Text

Father James Otis Sargent Huntington was ordained a Catholic priest around 1880. He began his work on Manhattan's Lower East Side helping working-class immigrants. Huntington became involved with labor unions shortly after and was an early member of the Knights of Labor. In addition to working with labor unions, he founded St. Faith's Home for Wayward Girls, St. Andrew's School at Sewanee, Kent School, and a mission in Liberia, Africa. Huntington died in 1935.
