Biographical Text

Cyrus Bentley was a lawyer in Chicago. He graduated from Union College of Law in 1884, and then from Yale, where he was a member of the Scroll and Key Society. Bentley was the attorney of Cyrus McCormick Jr. of McCormick Harvesting Machine Co. He later worked with J.P. Morgan and John D. Rockefeller in 1902 to maneuver the formation of McCormick's International Harvester Company. Bentley became the company's general counsel. He was also involved with the “National Citizens’ League for the Creation of a Sound Banking System,” which deceived the American public in an attempt to float the Morgan/Warburg/Schiff Federal Reserve Act past them in order to create a central bank, though this attempt failed. Bentley died in 1930.

Bentley married Mary Elizabeth King in 1888. They had two children.
