PLACE DE LA CONCORDE
My dear Alice
Many Happy returns for your birthday to you! I thought that by this time I should be returning to America chiefly because I would want to see you after your operation, but you see here I am after all getting ready for Budapest. The cablegrams were so reassuring that it seemed rather unjustifiable to leave Europe just ten days before the [page 2] Congress opened. Clara Landsberg and I sail June 25" so that I ought to be in Chicago by July 4th. I hope that you are planning to stay in Ill as long as that. I have a little birthday present which I am bringing with me but will get off some more postal cards today.
Mary & Mrs Bowen sailed yesterday and we start off to Hungary [Sat.] night. I am most impatient for the night letters about your care!
Always your loving sister
Jane Addams.
