My dear Miss Addams,

Your book has been hidden away until it could come forth to give the joy of a joint reading.

And all through this evening it has been warming our hearts and enriching our minds with its wealth of sympathy [page 2] and wisdom.

I want to crown it with laurel, and heap upon it "hearts ease and [rise]". For the book is filled with you: thoughtful, inspiring, and compelling in its humane and moral stimulus.

Your spirit illumines [page 3] each page. We appreciate so much your sending us an autograph copy. And we send you for it, and for many other things, our gratitude and love.

Sincerely and affectionately Yours,

Margaret H. Bancroft.

To
Miss Jane Addams,
Hull House,
Chicago.
