APR 22 1920 [stamped]

Dear Madam:

The department acknowledges receipt of your letter of April 10th, with reference to the purchase of unused barracks buildings at the Naval Training Station, Great Lakes, Ill.

Your letter did not state the type or location of the barracks desired, which of course, prevents the Department reaching an immediate decision, since it is probable that only a small portion of the existing station will be abandoned, and the sale of any buildings within this portion would require the immediate removal.

The matter, however, has been referred to the Commandant of the Station for recommendation, and decision with regard to the sale will naturally be held in abeyance until his recommendations are received.

Sincerely yours,

Joseph Daniels [stamped]
Secretary of the Navy.
Miss Jane Addams, President,
Hull-House,
800 South Halsted Street,
Chicago, Ill.
