Dear Miss Addams:
I am sending some additional names. We are averaging now and have for the last two weeks four new members a day. Isn't that pretty good?
Thank you very, very much, dear Miss Addams, for your generous offer to pay my expenses to the meeting. I am glad that I decided not to go, however. As the time comes I am more and more interested in what will happen at the meeting, more and more impressed with the response that is coming in all the time from our appeal (the response is really only just beginning, I am sure) and I am afraid that if I were at the meeting and under the influence of such an enthusiastic gathering as I am sure it is going to be, that if they wanted me to stay, I would find it hard to refuse. And I am really final in my resignation this time, so the best thing is to stay away. I am sorry.
Mrs. Thomas came to New York yesterday and I am to see her today. I wish she could take up her work with the League again but I don't think she will be willing to, even if the gathering wanted her to (as I am sure it would if there were any idea that she might come back) I don't know, perhaps she would. If the headquarters were in Washington I think it would be fine to have her as Field Secretary.
Mrs. Leach is coming to the meeting but cannot be in Chicago in time for the Board meeting. I hope the New Orleans meeting was a success.
Very sincerely yours,
Eleanor D. Karsten [signed]
