Biographical Text

Alexander Graham Bell was originally born in Scotland but later moved to Canada and America with his family. Bell had a deep interest in the way sound worked due to his mother and wife being deaf. This motivated many of his scientific experiments. Bell is best known for inventing the telephone and patenting it mere hours before Elisha Gray. After the telephone grew in popularity, he moved on to other inventions. Bell was involved in the treatment of deaf individuals and advocated eugenics style rules about deaf people marrying other deaf people due to the high number of deaf children that would come out of the union. Bell died in 1922.

Bell married Mabel Hubbard in 1857. They had four children: Else, Marion, and two boys that died in infancy.
