Biographical Text

Katherine Edmonson Tuley was a leading figure in the establishment of kindergartens in Chicago's public school systems. She was a member of the Chicago Women's Club, where she was chairman of the Truant Aid Committee, and a member of the Froebel Kindergarten Association Executive Committee. In 1884 she helped fund the Arnold Street Free Kindergarten, and in 1889 she founded the School Children's Aid Society. In 1893 she was a member of Kindergarten Congress.

Tuley married Murray F. Tuley in 1851. Tuley died in 1910.
