Allow me to acknowledge with sincere appreciation the receipt of the letter of October twenty-ninth signed by yourself, Mrs. Mead, Mrs. Post, Miss Spencer, and Miss Breckinridge. You are right in thinking that I value such expressions of opinion, and I hope with all my heart that I may be enabled to follow a wise and conservative course in the great matter about which you have spoken so candidly.
