Miss Jane Addams, one of the speakers, said Miss Vittum's familiarity with the needs of the people in the Seventeenth ward would make her an ideal alderman.
"This ward," she said, "has a chance to vote for an alderman who knows well the needs of the women and the children and will see to it that they are cared for, if she is sent to the city council.
"I know that if Miss Vittum is elected she will always keep a clear head. The council will not be able to bamboozle her. She will be loyal to the purposes of the platform on which she is elected."
