Miss Jane Addams,
Chicago, Ill.

My dear Miss Addams:

In recent correspondence with the Department of Factory Inspection in Illinois, Mr. Wischan tells us that the Governor has vetoed the greater part of the new appropriation for their work. I wonder if you have been back long enough to have learned whether this is final, or whether there is still something that the friends of Factory Inspection can do to see that the appropriation is secured. If we can lend a hand, please let me know.

I have just returned to the office and Miss Fowler has shown me your very kind letter in which you pay me a wholly undeserved compliment as to my public speaking. Since you have done it however, I shall not allow you to withdraw it, but thank you heartily for it.

Sincerely yours,

Owen R. Lovejoy [signed by secretary] L.
General Secretary
