Biographical Text

Friedrich Schiller was a German writer, poet, and playwright of Weimar Classicism. He was best-known for his poem "Ode to Joy" and dramas Die Räuber (1781), the Wallenstein trilogy (1800–1801), Maria Stuart (1801), and Wilhelm Tell (1804). He was also a professor of history and philosophy at Jena who synthesized the work of Immanuel Kant and Karl Leonhard Reinhold. Schiller was an associate of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and the two established the Weimar Theatre.

Schiller married Charlotte von Lengefeld. The couple had four children. Schiller died in 1805.
