My dear Miss Addams:

I am leaving for California tonight and return the very interesting letters which you sent me and which were exceedingly instructive. This one by Mr. Amos Pinchot is tremendously better than his other one. He hits the nail on the head this time.

I have no objection to your showing mine to Mr. Amos Pinchot any time you wish -- or a copy if you think it is useful. Personally, I do not think it is of enough consequence for that.

I very much wish I could have had a talk with you before I went to California for I feel as though the Progressive movement in our community -- so far as its character and inspiration go -- rests more on your reputation than anything else.

Very sincerely,

Alfred L. Baker [signed]

To
Miss Jane Addams,
Chicago.
