Biographical Text

Dr. Eleanor Allen Way Mellen was a member of the Progressive Party committee, which Jane Addams headed. She worked as a physician. In 1918, Mellen was appointed to the governmental position of explaining the nutritious properties of cottage cheese and showing people how it can be made in the home. These demonstrations were meant to increase the number of farmers who chose to keep their cows in New England during World War I.

Mellen married George H. Mellen in 1910. Mellen died in 1941.
