Biographical Text

Marion Talbot was the Dean of Women at the University of Chicago from 1895 to 1925. She helped Co-found the American Association of University Women with Ellen Swallow Richards, serving as its secretary and later as its president. Talbot advocated to improve support and conditions for women students and faculty, as well as advocated for equal access to education. She sudied at the Chapel Hill - Chauncy Hall School, Boston University, and MIT. Talbot taught domestic science at Wellesley College from 1890 to 1892, and later became an assistant professor in the Department of Social Science and Anthropology at the University of Chicago. She then became the University's Dean of Women in 1899. She wrote various publications, such as The Education of Women, The Modern Household, co-authored with Sophonisba P. Breckinridge, and More Than Lore. Talbot died in 1948.
