Biographical Text

Lawrence Pearsall Jacks was a Unitarian minister and editor in England. He attended Manchester New College and Harvard University. Jacks then became a Unitarian minister in Liverpool. From 1916 to 1931, Jacks was the principal of Manchester College, and from 1902 to 1948 he was the editor of Hibbert Journal. He was also the president of the Society for Psychical Research. Jacks was strongly against militarism and mechanism, and as time went on he became critical of institutionalized religion, despite remaining a Unitarian minister.

Jacks married Olive Brook 1889. They had six children together. Jacks died in 1955.
