Biographical Text

T. D. Hurley was a lawyer and judge who trained at Northwestern University. Hurley was dedicated to the cause of protecting the youth. He was involved in the creation of the Juvenile Court in Chicago in 1891. He was Assistant City Prosecutor; Hurley was later appointed Chief Probation Officer of Chicago's Juvenile Court in 1899. In 1902 he became a Justice of the Peace. By 1910, he was the editor of the Juvenile Court Record. Hurley was selected to join the Superior Court in 1921. He gained a reputation for opposing divorce and making it more difficult for divorced people to remarry. Hurley became Chief Justice of the Superior Court of Cook County on 1925.

Hurley married Mary Murtha in 1888. They had three children together. Hurley died in 1926.
