My dear Miss Addams:
I am attaching a letter which I have just written to Mrs. Hull with a carbon for you and I have also sent one to Miss Balch. I felt that you would be interested in knowing of the possibility of our having a nation wide campaign on Arbitration, [led] by the National Council. I am urging that the campaign, if undertaken, shall concentrate on a specific goal rather than on general education and that that specific goal shall be an arbitration treaty between Great Britain and ourselves. I have urged this particularly on the ground that we should help [cooperate] with Great Britain after their pilgrimage in the spring.
I am sure you will also be glad to know that we are moving into new quarters. The new office will be on the same block with the National Council for Prevention of War and the League of Women Voters and we are all facing the side of the War Department. The Allies Inn have taken over an old Georgian house and completely renovated it. It has gay blue window boxes, a beautiful entrance, and is on the corner so that we get light from two directions. We move in on October 1st. We are [swamped] now preparing to move and at the same time one of our staff is off on a vacation and I am getting ready for a month's tour in the middle west.
You may remember that all our furniture was given to us and is in very ramshackled condition. In going into the new office I am trying to get a few attractive things to really make it dignified and inviting, and all that I feel our national office should be. I am asking for all kinds of donations -- some in money, for furniture, etc. I am coming for one thing from you. I think that the National Office should have an autographed photograph of their International President. Would you be willing to donate this to us?
Devotedly yours,
