Biographical Text

Edmund Fisk Green, known to the public as John Fiske, was an American philosopher, writer and historian. Fiske was educated, and later employed, at Harvard College. Initially, Fiske attended school to study law, but gravitated towards history. Although Fiske was an abolitionist, he believed in the intellectual superiority of whites to other races. Fiske opposed the suffragist movement. He was also interested in contemporary scientific advancements, such as Darwin's theory of evolution. Fisk died in 1901.
